SULLIVAN’S CREEK CREATIVE AND ENVIRONMENTAL WALK

December 7, 2019

The purpose of this walk / tour was to map the Sullivan’s trail route, identify significant cultural, indigenous and environmental sites. This was an active and onsite community consultation about potential projects including identifying sites for creative and placemaking activities. This walk questioned how the community would like to create awareness and stewardship around our urban water ways.

Sullivan’s Trail creative director, Nicola Lambert invited attendees to observe the route though the eyes of an artist and see surfaces such as the open concrete drains and the bridges as canvases for stories to be told. We also identified other sites such as wall, electrical box’s ect as potential canvas. Attendees were be asked to create a Wishlist of the creative and cultural possibilities for this route. Inviting participants to marks spots on the route that they could see potential for activation ... seating, play equipment, markets, planting , naturalisation of the creek ect.

At the Haig Park Nature Play site Richie Allan invited the group to the learning circle and he shared some stories about the Ngunnawal connection to place.

This initiative presented as part Sullival Trail Project and made possible through the support of Molongo Conservation Group the ACT Government.
