FINDING WESTON: CONSIDERING COUNTRY

Join us as we uncover Weston Creek over a series of walks on Country lead by Ngunnawal Custodians

Catchment Studio in partnership with Southern ACT Catchment Group call for expressions of interest from artists, scientists, researchers, urban planners, educators and others to take part in a unique project considering Weston Creek as Country.

Guided by Ngunnawal Elders Uncle Wally Bell and Aunty Karen Denny, you’ll become part a diverse group of people undertaking a series of walks through the Weston Creek catchment. We’ll deepen our connection to this little-known waterway – honouring Ngunnawal knowledge, learning the creek’s stories, reflecting on our roles as Indigenous and non-Indigenous people on Country, meeting other species who live in the area and buildingmeaningful connections between people and water. We’ll ask how we might re-imagine the waterway as a centre for life in the area.

During the walks, we’ll experiment with mapping, storytelling, artmaking, recording and other interactive activities that can help foster a more sustainable relationship with our environment. At the end of the project, you’ll be invited to contribute to a collaborative event sharing our experiences with the wider public.

This is an exciting opportunity to come together to change how we relate Canberra’s waterways – to learn from each other, share stories and create positive change!

We are looking for people passionate about connecting people with waterways, creative thinkers who can bring new perspectives to land/water care and practitioners who work collaboratively with communities. We welcome applications from all backgrounds – no matter your discipline or experience level!

Finding Weston: Considering Country has been made possible by a generous ACT Government 2022-23 Environmental Grant and participation in the program is free. We particularly encourage you to apply if you live, work in or connect regularly with the Weston Creek area, but residents from wider Canberra and the region are also very welcome.

If you would like to join Finding Weston, Considering Country please follow the link below for more details. Download and complete the expression of interest form and email it to us at (yuma@catchmentstudio.com) by midnight, Friday 17 February 2023.
